Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have retired from Test cricket. But now, while engaging with fans on X (formerly Twitter), former South African cricketer Herschelle Gibbs revealed that when it comes to technicality, Rohit Sharma is better than Virat Kohli. However, during his U-19 days when Team India even won the U-19 World Cup title, Kohli mentioned his admiration for Gibbs as his favourite cricketer.
It first started with a video clip on X that showcased both the cricketers’ batting form in Test cricket. Commenting on that, Gibbs came in indirect support of Sharma and wrote, “It’s up to the batting coach to give him (Virat Kohli) more options to score no matter who the batter is… thank me later.”
The second time Gibbs was seen in support of Sharma was while giving his opinion on who among the two batters is more technically correct. He wrote, “Rohit was always more technically correct than Virat. But Virat’s desire to dominate, especially in white-ball format, is a major difference between the two batters.”
“You ever see Rohit defend balls on 4th or 5th stump?” – Herschelle Gibbs
Elaborating on his opinion more, he then mentioned, “You ever see Rohit defend balls on 4th or 5th stump? How many times did Virat get out doing just that? Rohit definitely technically better than Virat.”
Both Kohli and Sharma won’t be a part of India’s upcoming tour to England. When it comes to their stats in Test cricket for Team India, Sharma has played in 67 matches, scoring 4301 runs. Kohli, on the other hand, with the longest innings in Test cricket, played 123 matches while securing a total of 9230 runs in his name.
