The BCCI announced on 16 May that former India player Hrishikesh Kanitkar has been appointed as the head coach of the India A team. He will be joined by Subhodeep Ghosh and Troy Cooley, who will serve as the fielding coach and bowling coach, respectively. India A’s first match against the England Lions will begin in Canterbury on 30 May. The second match will be played in Northampton from 6 June, after which India A will take part in a closed-door intra-squad match against the senior Indian team in Beckenham.
Kanitkar has represented India in two Test matches, scoring 74 runs at an average of 18.50. He has also played 34 ODIs, amassing 339 runs—including one half-century—at an average of 17.84, and has taken 17 wickets.
The selection of the senior team was initially scheduled for 23 May but has been postponed due to the resumption of the IPL. It will now take place in the last week of May.
The senior team is set to depart for England on 6 June, with the first Test beginning on 20 June at Headingley. This tour holds particular significance, as it will be the first time the team plays without two greats—Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
