Mumbai Indians (MI) have brought in Jonny Bairstow, Charith Asalanka, and Richard Gleeson as replacements for Will Jacks, Corbin Bosch, and Ryan Rickelton, all of whom are departing for international commitments.
Jacks, Rickelton, and Bosch are set to depart after MI’s final league match against Punjab Kings in Jaipur on May 26 to fulfill national commitments.
These replacement players will only join the squad if MI qualify.
Jacks has returned to India for MI’s final two league games but will miss the playoffs due to England’s upcoming ODI series against the West Indies, which overlaps with the rescheduled IPL knockout phase. To fill the gap, MI have roped in fellow Englishman Jonny Bairstow, who went unsold in the previous auction. Bairstow will also bolster the squad as a wicketkeeping option, with Rickelton also set to leave before the playoffs.
Asalanka and Gleeson replace Rickelton and Bosch respectively, as both head to London in order to prepare for the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia at the home of cricket- Lord’s.
This mark Asalanka’s debut season in the IPL, while Gleeson returns after a short stint with Chennai Super Kings last year.
MI currently sit fourth on the points table, with crucial fixtures remaining against Delhi Capitals (May 21) and Punjab Kings (May 26).
