Mumbai Indians (MI) have announced that England pacer Richard Gleeson will join them for the remainder of the ongoing IPL 2025 as a temporary replacement for their star South Africa wicketkeeper-batter Ryan Rickelton. Rickelton will not be available for the playoffs for MI, if they manage to secure a spot, as he is a part of the South Africa squad that is scheduled to take on Australia in the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final from 11 to 15 June at Lord’s.
Who is Richard Gleeson, and at What Price is He Joining MI?
Richard Gleeson is an English pacer who has already played in the IPL previously. In the IPL 2023, for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Gleeson played two games and took one wicket. He will join MI at a reserve price of INR 1 crore. However, he will be available from the Playoffs stage onwards, should MI qualify.
MI’s Playoff Scenario
With two more matches to go in the league stage, MI are currently in the fourth spot with 14 points in 12 games, with a net run rate of +1.156. Only one spot is still available for the playoffs, and both MI and Delhi Capitals (DC) are the only competitors. MI have to play against DC and the already-qualified Punjab Kings (PBKS). Hence, the MI vs DC clash is going to decide the fate of both teams. Even if MI defeat DC and loss the other match, they will end up with 16 points. While even after that loss, if DC win their last game vs PBKS, they can reach up to 15 points.
