The match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has been shifted to the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, which was originally scheduled to be played in Bengaluru. The decision was taken due to the adverse weather conditions that have persisted in South India over the past few days. The meteorological department in Bengaluru has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall until Thursday. RCB’s previous game against KKR was washed out, resulting in KKR being eliminated from the IPL.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made the decision during a series of meetings that the final of the IPL 2025 season will now be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Ahmedabad will also host Qualifier 2 on June 1. The first two matches of the next round — Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator — are likely to be played in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh, on May 29 and 30, respectively.
“The new venues for the Playoffs were decided by the IPL Governing Council keeping in mind the weather conditions and other parameters,” said the IPL media release.
It is believed that, with the onset of the rainy season across the country, the BCCI was compelled to make these changes to minimize weather-related disruptions. Originally, the final was set to be hosted at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata, while Hyderabad was scheduled to host the Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator. Both cities will now miss out on hosting these key matches.
