Australia’s all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has retired from One Day Internationals (ODIs) after a successful career, scoring 3,990 runs in 149 matches, 77 wickets, and two ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup titles (2015, 2023). His final ODI was against India in the ICC Champions Trophy earlier this year.
Maxwell said he stepped away to prioritise the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka, the Big Bash League, and other global commitments. “I felt like I was letting the team down a little bit with how the body was reacting,” he told the Final Word Podcast. He added, “I wasn’t going to hand my position over if I felt like I was still good enough to play. But they’re moving in a clear direction, and it’s time others get a crack.”

Here are the top three ODI knocks of Glenn Maxwell:
201 runs vs Afghanistan, 2023 (ICC Cricket World Cup)
Maxwell’s best ODI innings came in the 2023 World Cup when he smashed an unbeaten 201 runs off 128 balls with 21 fours and 10 sixes. Despite struggling with cramps, he lifted Australia from 91/7 to a stunning three-wicket win in Mumbai.
108 runs vs England, 2020 (Australia Tour of England)
In the last match of the series at Manchester, Maxwell scored a brilliant 108 runs off 90 balls (four fours, seven sixes) at a strike rate of 120.00 to help Australia chase down England’s target of 303 and win by three wickets. With that win, Aussies bagged the three-match series 2-1.
96 runs vs India, 2016 (India Tour of Australia)
At Melbourne, Maxwell scored 96 runs off 83 balls with eight fours and three sixes. His calmness under pressure took Australia to a thrilling three-wicket win against India while chasing 296.
