Veteran cricket administrator Rajeev Shukla is reportedly all set to take over as the interim BCCI President, replacing Roger Binny, who is turning 70 next month. As per the rules of the BCCI, office-bearers must step down upon reaching the age limit of 70.

Roger Binny, who took over from Sourav Ganguly as BCCI President in 2022, will celebrate his 70th birthday on July 19, which will make him ineligible to continue to serve the BCCI. The former all-rounder was a key member of India’s 1983 World Cup-winning team.

He also coached the India Under-19 team to World Cup glory in 2000. Before being appointed as BCCI President, he served as the President of the Karnataka State Cricket Association.

Rajeev Shukla is currently serving as the Vice President of the BCCI

Rajeev Shukla, who is 65 years old, has been serving as the Vice President of the BCCI since 2020. He is also a Rajya Sabha MP from the Congress party and has previously served as the chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

“As per convention, the senior-most office-bearer takes charge in such a scenario. He (Shukla) will perform that role until fresh elections are held in September,” said a BCCI source.

This is a temporary move by the BCCI until the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in September, which will decide the new full-time president. A similar situation occurred in 2017, when C.K. Khanna served as acting BCCI President during the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators’ term.
