The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), after 18 years of waiting, finally got their hands on the IPL trophy for the first time by winning the IPL 2025. They defeated the Shreyas Iyer-led Punjab Kings (PBKS) by six runs. Throughout the season, Iyer led from the front, scoring more than 600 runs, but in the final, he managed only one run. The way he got out to Romario Shepherd did not go down well with former Team India player, Yograj Singh.
He labelled the manner of Iyer’s dismissal a ‘criminal offence’. Speaking on his dismissal to ANI, Singh said, “The shot which Shreyas Iyer played in the final was a criminal offence, according to me. Ashok Mankad told me about this criminal offence, which comes under Section 302. He also told me that the repercussions of this is that you will be banned for two matches. What Shreyas did yesterday is not acceptable. There is no apology for that.”
Where did PBKS lack in the final?
PBKS started off quite well in the run chase with their opening batters. Priyansh Arya scored 24 runs off 19 balls, and Prabhsimran Singh added 26 runs off 22 balls, giving them a 43-run opening partnership.
The momentum continued with batters like Josh Inglis, who scored 39 runs off 23 balls. But Iyer failed to live up to expectations with just one run. Next came Nehal Wadhera, who could only score 15 runs off 18 balls.
Shashank Singh showed excellent fight, scoring an unbeaten 61 off 30 balls. The batter tried his best to keep the chase within reach, but eventually, they fell short by 6 runs. RCB’s bowling lineup — including Krunal Pandya (2/17), Yash Dayal (1/18), and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2/38) — put up quite a show in restricting the PBKS batters.
