Australian fast bowler Josh Hazlewood believes he’s currently delivering the best bowling of his career as he prepares for the World Test Championship final against South Africa, set to begin on June 11 at Lord’s.

The seasoned seamer was sidelined towards the end of the Australian home season and missed the Sri Lanka tour due to a calf injury sustained in Brisbane. However, he made a strong return during IPL 2025, emerging as the leading wicket-taker for his team and finishing third overall in the tournament — playing a key role in their title triumph.

“I feel much better physically this time around,” Hazlewood said in the lead-up to the WTC final. “Across formats, my numbers over the past couple of years have been quite consistent, and that gives me confidence. From a skills point of view, I genuinely feel I’m bowling as well as I ever have. Now it’s just about staying fit, and thankfully, things have gone smoothly in recent months.”

Hazlewood’s last red-ball appearance came in December 2024, during the third Test against India. He was then replaced by Scott Boland, who made a massive impact on the rest of the series.

With captain Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc locked in for Australia’s pace attack and Nathan Lyon as the first choice spinner, Hazlewood and Boland are likely to be competing for the final seamer’s slot in the XI.

Hazlewood will also take confidence from his previous performance at Lord’s, where he picked up five wickets during the 2023 Ashes Test against England.
