Zimbabwe T20I captain Sikandar Raza has alleged that he was subjected to racial abuse during a Vigne Cup match on 1 June. According to his claims, while he was walking off the field after completing his innings, the opposition coach made racially offensive remarks towards him.
The incident took place at the Old Hararians Sports Club, where Raza was representing his team against the Rainbow Cricket Club.
Reports suggest that the alleged abuser was Rainbow Cricket Club Head Coach Blessing Mafuwa.
In order to address the matter formally, Raza has lodged an official complaint with the Harare Metropolitan Cricket Association (HMCA), requesting a full investigation into the incident.
“If found guilty, an example should be made of him so that things like this never happen again — not to this generation, and not to the next,” Raza told ESPNcricinfo.
However, despite eight days having passed since the incident, the HMCA has yet to issue a public statement.
Raza’s Brilliance Outshines Rainbow Cricket Club
In the Vigne Cup match on 1 June, the Rainbow Cricket Club posted a target of 225/8 in 39 overs. In response, Old Hararians chased it down emphatically, finishing on 402/9 in 50 overs. Raza delivered a thrilling performance, scoring 78 off 56 balls to lead his side to a dominant victory.
The veteran all-rounder has represented Zimbabwe in over 19 Tests, 151 ODIs, and 105 T20Is. He is one of the few Zimbabwean players to have featured in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
