Ahead of the start of India’s long domestic season, Saurabh Kumar has moved from Uttar Pradesh to Andhra. The left-arm spinner’s transfer has received the green light from both state associations – the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) and the Andhra Cricket Association (ACA).
“I am excited to play for Andhra. I am looking forward to the coming season. I hope to guide Andhra to a title in at least one format and to the final of the Ranji Trophy,” Saurabh said in an interview with Cricbuzz.
The 32-year-old has been playing domestic cricket for a long time, having made his debut for Services in 2014. His First-Class record speaks for itself – he has taken 324 wickets in 79 matches at an average of 26.45.
Saurabh has been on the fringes of national selection, having been named in the squad for the home series against Sri Lanka in 2022 and the England series last year. However, he is yet to make his India debut.
Saurabh awaits BCCI approval
Saurabh’s move to Andhra Pradesh was officially announced on 8 June during the ACA’s Annual General Meeting in Vijayawada. A few formalities still remain. “The move has been approved, but a few formalities are pending. We will be writing to Abey Kuruvilla for the BCCI’s approval,” an ACA official stated.
The move comes ahead of the upcoming domestic season, and Saurabh will be a vital asset for Andhra, joining the likes of Ricky Bhui, Shaik Rasheed, and senior players such as Hanuma Vihari and KS Bharat.
