After leading Punjab Kings to their first final since 2014 in the prestigious Indian Premier League (IPL), Shreyas Iyer has now guided Sobo Mumbai Falcons into the semi-finals of the ongoing T20 Mumbai League 2025.
Commanding the field with confidence and charisma, the stylish batter has skilfully led the team. His leadership has been instrumental in the Falcons’ stellar league campaign, helping them secure a well-deserved semi-final berth with four wins from five matches.
“It (captaincy) brings in a lot of maturity and responsibility,” Iyer told the T20 Mumbai League. “You are always expected to perform and contribute in the best way possible for the team because whenever there is a hurdle or some kind of adversity you face as a team, they always come to the captain. I think I have got a lot of experience as I have been captaining since I was 22. I have enjoyed the moments and also embraced it. I love the fact to come out and lead.”
Speaking about handling high-pressure moments, he added: “I just try to get into my zone and I try to do things which are there in front of me. I try to stay focused as much as possible, just to stay in the present, embrace the situation, embrace the crowd because sometimes they get very electrifying and pass on the energy to you. So I keep telling myself that I want the crowd to cheer my name, and that brings that kind of motivation.”
What began as a childhood dream on the grounds of Shivaji Park has evolved into a remarkable journey—one that has seen Iyer become a proven match-winner for India.
Iyer recently enjoyed a fantastic IPL season, leading PBKS from the front by scoring 604 runs from 17 matches at an average of 50.33 and a strike rate of 175.07, including six half-centuries. He played one of the finest innings in IPL history during Qualifier-2 against Mumbai Indians (MI), smashing an unbeaten 87 off just 41 balls at a strike rate of 212.20 in a high-pressure situation at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad to take his team to the final.
