The whole cricketing fraternity is mourning after the tragic incident in Ahmedabad on June 12, 2025. Shortly after the Boeing 787 Dreamliner of Air India, operating as Flight AI171 from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, took off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, it crashed. The plane carried 242 people, including 230 passengers and 12 crew members. The aircraft crashed into Meghani, causing an immense fire due to the heavy fuel load.

Emergency services, including six NDRF teams, fire engines, ambulances, and police, began rescue operations immediately. Many cricketers from around the world have shared their deepest condolences with the families of those affected.

Former Team India Men’s Cricket Team skipper Sourav Ganguly expressed his grief and wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Deeply saddened by the tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad today. My heartfelt prayers go out to the families and loved ones of those affected. May they find strength in this time of immense grief.”

Virat Kohli sent prayers for the affected families and wrote on his Instagram story, “Shocked to hear about the plane crash at Ahmedabad today. Praying for all those affected and thoughts with their families.”

Afghanistan bowler Rashid Khan also prayed for strength in this tough time and wrote, “Really saddened to hear about the tragic crash in Ahmedabad today. My thoughts and prayers to all the victims and their families. May you have the strength to bare this loss. Also praying for strength to all the first responders.”

Former India Women’s Cricket Team skipper Mithali Raj also shared her prayers through X, “Tragic news from Ahmedabad. Praying for everyone affected by the Air India plane crash.”

India’s new Test captain Shubman Gill shared, “Shaken by the heartbreaking tragedy in Ahmedabad. In this hour of grief, sending prayers to all those affected, and strength to the brave souls helping on the ground.”

India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir shared his prayers and wrote, “Extremely saddened by the tragic crash in Ahmedabad. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by this catastrophe.”
