India Head Coach Gautam Gambhir has had to return to India due to a family emergency. His mother has suffered a heart attack and is currently in ICU undergoing treatment in Delhi. He is currently with the family to deal with the crisis.
We have also been told that Gautam should be returning to England early next week to resume national duty. At this time of crisis, we wish his mother a speedy recovery and our thoughts are with the family.
India start their intra squad match today in Beckenham and it will be a four day affair. This is the final opportunity ahead of the Leeds Test match to finalise the team and the touring party has decided to make it a close door affair with no media or broadcast allowed for this game.
Gambhir will have to mentor young captain Shubman Gill on this tour and add all his experience to the young dressing room to make things count. With no Rohit and no Virat, it will be Gautam Gambhir who will have to hand hold Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant in what will be a very challenging tour.
Yet again we wish his mother a speedy recovery and good health and our thoughts are with the family in these challenging times.
