England’s tearaway fast bowler Jofra Archer is set to play the full season of the Big Bash League (BBL) this year as he looks to make a strong return ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup. According to a BBC report on Monday, 16 June, Archer has registered for the entire tournament, which will be held across December and January in Australia.

Archer recently played the IPL 2025, where he bagged 11 wickets and impressed with sharp pace, especially during the powerplay for the Rajasthan Royals. The Barbados-born cricketer missed the last part of the IPL. He was a part of the Champions Trophy squad, though he didn’t make much impact in the tournament held in Pakistan and Dubai.

Archer Hopes to Feature in Ashes and India Test Series

The 30-year-old pacer is currently recovering from a thumb injury and hopes to be fit for England’s five-match Test series against India at home. He also expressed his desire to be part of the Ashes, the series that propelled him into the limelight in 2019. However, the Ashes (scheduled from mid-November to early January) could clash with the BBL, as was the case during the 2021–22 season.

While Ollie Pope and Jacob Bethell have signed on for only a few BBL matches, Archer is set to remain with his team for the entire season. The last time he featured in the BBL was with the Hobart Hurricanes in 2017 and 2018, where he claimed 34 wickets at an average of 23.26. His performances in Australia were instrumental in launching his international career, eventually leading to his debut for England in 2019.
