Glenn Maxwell lit up the Major League Cricket stage with a magnificent century, powering Washington Freedom to a dominant 113-run win over Los Angeles Knight Riders in Oakland on June 17, 2025.

Batting first, Washington posted a big total of 208 for five in their 20 overs, with Maxwell’s explosive knock playing a crucial role. Coming in when the team needed a push, the captain accelerated the innings with an unbeaten 106 off just 49 balls, which included 2 boundaries and 13 maximums, at a strike rate of 216.32.

Opener Mitchell Owen gave the innings a flying start with a quick 32 off 11 balls, while Obus Pienaar provided some support towards the end. The Knight Riders’ bowlers had no answers to Maxwell’s onslaught, despite decent spells from Corné Dry and Tanveer Sangha, who picked up two wickets each.

While chasing, the Los Angeles batting lineup simply collapsed under the pressure of the big target. Saif Badar’s 32 was the only notable contribution as they were bowled out for just 95 in 16.3 overs. Washington’s bowlers, led by Jack Edward and Mitchell Owen, never allowed them to settle.

After the brilliant innings, Maxwell was declared Player of the Match and said, “I gave myself a chance and being captain, you sort of feel that responsibility to carry on for the team. I sort of put aside my first 20 balls and just invest as much as 1 possibly can. And that really paid off.”
