Jasprit Bumrah is undoubtedly one of the best fast bowlers of his generation for India, and he proved that once again with a five-wicket haul in the ongoing Leeds Test between India and England. However, this isn’t the first time the pacer has picked up a fifer in English conditions.
Here are the 3 instances when Bumrah has taken a 5-wicket haul in Tests in England:
5/64 in Nottingham, 2021
In England’s second innings of the first Test of the 2021 tour, Bumrah delivered a fiery spell, taking five wickets after having already picked up four in the first innings. He dismissed three top-order batters — Zak Crawley, Dom Sibley, and Joe Root — before removing Sam Curran and Stuart Broad to wrap up the innings. He finished with figures of 5/64 in 19 overs.
5/83 at Leeds, 2025
In England’s first innings of the opening Test of the 2025 tour, Bumrah played a key role in restricting the hosts to 465, giving India a narrow 6-run lead. He struck early by dismissing Zak Crawley with a peach of a delivery, then removed Ben Duckett and Joe Root on Day 1. He later cleaned up the lower order, sending back Chris Woakes and Josh Tongue to complete his 14th five-wicket haul in Test cricket — his third in England. He ended with figures of 5/83 in 24.4 overs.
5/85 in Nottingham, 2018
During the third Test of the 2018 tour, Bumrah picked up 5/85 in England’s second innings to help India secure a convincing 203-run win at Nottingham — their only victory in that series. His victims included Joe Root, Jos Buttler, Jonny Bairstow, Chris Woakes, and Stuart Broad. His effort with the ball was crucial in sealing the win.
