Former England skipper Nasser Hussain has heaped high praise on Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, admitting he would have struggled immensely against him during his own playing days.
Speaking on Sky Sports Cricket, Hussain confessed, “I would have had an absolute nightmare. Anyone that created that angle like he does would get me out for fun. He would get me out 10 times out of 10 in a five-match series. He is just brilliant, and I wasn’t.”
It was the Jasprit Bumrah show once again with the ball as he showcased his brilliance at Headingley, where he returned figures of 5 for 83, claiming his 14th five-wicket haul in Test cricket. His spell helped India secure a slender but significant first-innings lead against England in the opening Test of the series.
Despite limited support from the other end, Bumrah maintained relentless pressure on the English batters and ensured India went into the tea break with the upper hand. With that performance, he also surpassed Pakistan legend Wasim Akram’s tally to become the highest wicket-taker among Asian bowlers in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia) countries, with 150 wickets.
Now playing his 46th Test, Bumrah has taken his career tally to 210 wickets at an average of 19.33 and an economy rate of just 2.77. Against England alone, he has scalped 65 wickets in 15 Tests at an average of 21.73, including three five-wicket hauls on English soil.
