Karun Nair failed to make the most of his chance once again, getting out for 20 (54 balls) in India’s second innings of the ongoing Leeds Test against England.
After returning to the Indian Test side after eight years, Nair got off the mark with a reverse sweep against Shoaib Bashir. He followed it up with a classy off-drive for another boundary. For a brief moment, he looked settled at the crease. But his innings ended when he was caught and bowled by Chris Woakes.
It was a full delivery, and Nair went for a drive but ended up offering a simple return catch. The dream of a fairytale comeback came crashing down. Despite doing well in the practice matches before the Test, Nair has now missed two key chances. The manner of his dismissals will surely leave him disappointed and frustrated.
India on a mission to set England a big target
Earlier in the day, India lost captain Shubman Gill early. But KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant stepped up and steadied the innings. Together, they guided India into a strong position with a massive partnership.
Both batters reached personal milestones. Rahul notched up his ninth Test century, while Pant completed his eighth. Their stand added 195 runs off 283 balls. Pant scored 118 runs from 140 balls, hitting 15 fours and three sixes. He was eventually dismissed by Shoaib Bashir.
KL Rahul went on to score 137 off 247 balls. His knock included 18 boundaries. He was bowled by Brydon Carse after an inside edge went onto the stumps.
