West Indies pacer Jayden Seales produced a fiery spell of fast bowling to dismantle the Australian batting line-up for just 180 runs on the opening day of the first Test at Kensington Oval, Barbados. Only 23 years old and ranked 10th in the ICC Men’s Test Bowler Rankings, Seales took charge and delivered an exceptional five-wicket haul—his third in Test cricket—to rattle the Aussies on a lively surface.
Bowling with pace and precision, Seales returned figures of 5 for 60 in 15.5 overs, dismissing Josh Inglis, Alex Carey, Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, and Josh Hazlewood. His relentless pressure ensured that Australia never truly found rhythm with the bat.
Despite the brilliant performance, Seales admitted that he didn’t feel at his best throughout the day, which made this five-wicket haul particularly significant for him. “This is probably my best five-wicket haul because it wasn’t my best day and I didn’t feel at my best any time throughout the day,” Seales said, as quoted by the ICC.
Both Shamar Joseph and Jaydon Seales took nine wickets together
“There were times I felt good, but throughout spells I didn’t feel like I was in full control of what I wanted to do or was executing or nailing my lengths and lines as consistently as I wanted, so this one is probably my most special one,” he concluded.
Seales received valuable support from fellow pacer Shamar Joseph, who claimed 4 wickets himself, ensuring West Indies gained the early advantage in the match. However, Australia struck back late in the day with the ball, reducing the hosts to 57/4 by stumps.
