Three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray has revealed that he will likely skip Wimbledon this year unless a British player reaches the final or his children want to attend. As quoted in News 18, the former World No. 1, who famously ended Britain’s 77-year wait for a men’s singles champion by winning Wimbledon in 2013, admitted he rarely watches tennis as a fan.

“I don’t have any plans to go,” said Murray, who also lifted the Wimbledon title again in 2016. “I’m not working there. I don’t go to watch tennis as a fan. But if one of my kids wanted to go along and watch, I obviously would take them. If a British player made the final, I’d go.”

Murray added that he has only attended matches as a spectator on rare occasions. “I went to the Novak Djokovic v Carlos Alcaraz final a couple of years ago, just because I had a feeling it was going to be a great match. But I won’t be there otherwise.”

“I’m sure he’ll cope with it well.” – Murray on Jack Draper

The 37-year-old, who is set to be honoured with a statue at Wimbledon in 2027 as part of its 150th anniversary, is wrapping up his playing career after the Paris Olympics. Earlier this year, Murray briefly joined Novak Djokovic’s coaching team ahead of the Australian Open, though the partnership ended before the French Open without yielding a title.

Despite stepping away from the court, Murray remains hopeful about the future of British tennis. Speaking about rising star Jack Draper, he said:

“It’ll be a little bit different this year coming in as a top seed, but he’ll deal with it well. He’s played in difficult environments and under pressure before, and I’m sure he’llcope with it well.”
