Nitish Rana may once again be seen playing for his home state, Delhi, as he is set to return after spending two seasons with Uttar Pradesh.
According to reports, the left-handed batter has received his No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) and is expected to rejoin Delhi ahead of the next domestic season.
“The experienced batter asked for an NOC and we have given it to him,” UPCA’s chief executive officer Ankit Chatterjee told ESPNcricinfo.
The secretary of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), Ashok Sharma, confirmed that Rana had informed the board of his decision and had received the necessary clearance from UP.
Nitish Rana had a poor IPL 2025
“However, DDCA has not yet received a copy of his NOC. Only after receiving it can we comment on the likelihood of him playing for Delhi,” Ashok Sharma said, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
Rana played for Delhi until 2022 before moving to UP, where he was handed the captaincy. However, his stint there was underwhelming. In the 2024–25 Ranji Trophy season, Rana scored only 150 runs in six innings, with a solitary half-century. In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20s, he managed just 111 runs in nine matches, averaging 13.87 with a strike rate of 114.43. He featured in only two matches in the Vijay Hazare Trophy before being dropped.
His IPL season was also disappointing, as he scored just 217 runs from 11 innings, registering two half-centuries before being sidelined due to injury.
