
Kusal Mendis played a crucial knock of 84 runs against Bangladesh in Sri Lanka’s first innings of the second Test. However, he got run out but injured himself as he did not come out to keep wickets in Bangladesh’s second innings.
Bangladesh put up a score of 247 runs before getting all out. In reply, Sri Lanka started well but lost some quick wickets after crossing the 300-run mark. Kusal came out to bat and joined Kamindu Mendis in the middle in the 89th over. He built a good partnership with Kamindu, adding 49 runs off 59 balls. Kusal scored 84 runs off just 87 balls, including eight boundaries and two sixes.
However, an unfortunate incident occurred when he got out. Taijul Islam bowled a short ball outside off, which Kusal punched and called for two. Despite putting in a dive, he couldn’t reach the crease and was run out. In the process, he injured himself and did not return to keep wickets in the second innings. While leaving the field after being run out, Kusal was seen holding his arm and abdomen.

Even, Sri Lanka cricket shared an official statement, stating: “#: – Kusal Mendis hit his right shoulder on the ground while diving, trying to avoid being run out. He is currently being assessed and is still in pain. He’s receiving treatment from the team physio and may not take the field today. If the pain persists, an MRI scan will be performed on the player. Lahiru Udara is keeping wickets in his place, with Pavan Rathnayake serving as the substitute fielder. #SriLankaCricket #SLvsBAN”
Sri Lanka posted a massive total of 458, thanks to Pathum Nissanka’s 158, Dinesh Chandimal’s 93, and Kusal’s 84. For Bangladesh, Taijul Islam claimed five wickets. At the end of Day 3, Bangladesh are struggling at 115/6 in their second innings.
