UP Warriorz and Jon Lewis Part Ways After Three Seasons

UP Warriorz have ended their association with head coach Jon Lewis after three seasons, the franchise confirmed via social media on Friday, June 27.

The split follows a disappointing 2025 WPL campaign where the Warriorz managed just three wins in eight matches, finishing at the bottom of the table. The absence of regular skipper Alyssa Healy due to injury proved costly, and interim captain Deepti Sharma couldn’t turn the team’s fortunes around. The 2024 season had yielded similar results, with the team finishing second from bottom with the same win-loss record.

Lewis had initially made a promising start with the franchise, leading them to the playoffs in their debut season. However, the momentum didn’t last. Across his tenure, the Warriorz registered only nine victories in 25 games.

The franchise, in its farewell post, acknowledged Lewis’ commitment, noting that he had instilled belief in the squad and maintained a positive environment through challenging phases.

Alongside his role with the Warriorz, Lewis was also serving as head coach of the England Women’s team, a position he had held since November 2022. Earlier this year, he stepped down from that post following England’s 16-0 white-ball series defeat to Australia in the Women’s Ashes—a setback that further marked a difficult year for the Englishman.

The UP Warriorz will now begin the search for a new head coach, with a possible shake-up in the support staff ahead of the next WPL season.
