Two-time world champion Nikhat Zareen began her campaign with a strong 4:1 win over Uttar Pradesh’s Rashi Sharma in the 48–51kg category on the opening day of the Elite Women’s Boxing Tournament, held on Saturday.

In a major upset, Haryana’s Anjali defeated World Championships bronze medallist Manisha Moun in the 57–60kg category at the Saroornagar Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad.

Other key results on Day 1 included a dominant 5:0 win for 2023 world champion Neetu from Haryana, who beat Rajani Singh (UP) in the 45–48kg category. Telangana’s Yashi Sharma also impressed with a 5:0 win against K Monisha of Tamil Nadu in the 60–65kg bout.

Laxmi, a promising name from the TOPS program, delivered a commanding 5:0 victory over Uttar Pradesh’s Ragini in the 51–54kg category.

The gold and silver medal winners from each of the 10 weight categories will be selected for the elite national training camp in Patiala.
