The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is facing uncertainty over India’s scheduled white-ball tour in August 2025, due to the prevailing political situation in the region. As per the original schedule, India were set to tour Bangladesh for three ODIs and three T20Is starting August 17, but the series is now in doubt.
BCB President Aminul Islam revealed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is currently waiting for official clearance from the Indian government before confirming the tour. “We’re having positive discussions with the BCCI,” Aminul told the media following the 19th board meeting held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Monday (June 30).
Simon Taufel to Lead Umpire Education in Bangladesh
Aminul also shared that discussions are ongoing about when the series can take place, and there are contingency plans in case the original dates cannot be met. “It’s not like (hosting India) in August or September, we are having discussions how we can do the series and if we cannot host it now we will do it at another possible time. They (BCCI) are waiting for some government clearance,” he added.
In a significant development regarding umpiring standards, the BCB is close to finalising a three-year deal with former ICC elite umpire Simon Taufel. Taufel will lead Bangladesh’s new umpire education programme. “We’ve nearly finalised the agreement with Simon, and he, along with his team, will work to educate our umpires,” Aminul confirmed.
The BCB is also aiming to strengthen women’s cricket, with a plan to bring in a female selector for the national side. “We have decided to include women selectors for the national women’s team soon,” Aminul stated.
Finally, the BCB confirmed that the next edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) will be held in December–January, backed by a new five-year franchise agreement and support from a leading event management company.
