Inter Milan crashed out of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 after a shocking 2-0 defeat to Brazil’s Fluminense in the Round of 16. The result stunned fans and left Inter captain Lautaro Martinez furious with his team’s mindset.
After the match, Martinez didn’t hold back. Speaking to reporters, he called out teammates who lacked the hunger to fight for the club. As quoted by ESPN, he said: “I want to fight for the major titles. Anyone who wants to stay at Inter, fine, let’s fight. But anyone who doesn’t want to stay can leave. We need players who want to be here. We’re wearing an important shirt. We need a top-level mentality, or please leave.”
He also apologised to fans and demanded more passion from the squad: “It was a long and tiring season, we finished empty-handed. It is a general message. In order to stay up there and fight for titles, we must be eager … I apologise to the fans who came here to follow us closely. I am the captain and I want to keep things at the top.”
Coach Chivu Stays Positive Despite the Defeat
According to Inter Milan’s official website, coach Cristian Chivu tried to find positives in the tough loss. He said, “We gave our all to push on despite the difficulties we had. I think it was positive that a new manager and new staff got to know the group, identifying their strengths and weaknesses. It isn’t easy arriving after such heavy disappointment, but I have seen that the guys are giving their all.”
