Donovan Ferreira delivered a stunning performance in the 23rd match of the ongoing Major League Cricket (MLC) 2025 season as the Texas Super Kings (TSK) secured a dominant 43-run win over Washington Freedom (WSF).
Due to rain, the match was shortened to five overs per side. Batting first, TSK lost early wickets with Marcus Stoinis (2 off 2) and Daryl Mitchell (6 off 5) falling cheaply. However, a powerful third-wicket partnership between Shubham Ranjane and Donovan Ferreira changed the course of the game. The duo added an unbeaten 53 runs off just 12 balls, hammering four fours and eight sixes to post a formidable total of 87/2 in five overs.
Ranjane top-scored with an unbeaten 39 off 14 balls, while Ferreira’s fiery finish proved decisive. In the final over of the innings, bowled by Mitchell Owen, Ferreira exploded with 28 runs, including four massive sixes, to push the total beyond WSF’s reach.
Chasing 88, Washington Freedom’s big-hitting top order failed to fire. TSK pacer Nandre Burger made an instant impact, dismissing Rachin Ravindra (10 off 4) and Glenn Maxwell (0) off the final two balls of the first over. In the next over, Akeal Hosein removed opener Mitchell Owen (7 off 6), leaving WSF in deep trouble.
Glenn Phillips was the lone fighter for WSF, scoring 18 off 11 balls and remaining unbeaten. However, the team could only manage 44/4 in their five overs, falling well short of the target.
Donovan Ferreira on the Win
After the game, Ferreira expressed his delight at contributing to TSK’s victory and shared insights into the team’s planning against WSF’s bowling attack.
“Feeling good. I’m glad I did it for the team, especially in such a close game. We needed to get a high score because they have explosive batters,” Ferreira said.
“We did a lot of analysis in terms of their bowlers, hitting the deck hard. I watched the game last night. They were just hitting the deck. So we knew they were going to start over there, and then they were going to go fuller if they had been under pressure,” he added.
