Former England pacer Stuart Broad was full of praise for India’s Test captain Shubman Gill after his composed and patient century on Day 1 of the second Test at Edgbaston. Facing England’s relentless pace attack, Gill stood tall, displaying maturity well beyond his years and leading from the front with a calm, assured presence at the crease.

Gill’s innings struck the perfect balance between caution and aggression. He absorbed the early pressure, rotated strike efficiently, and unleashed his trademark stroke-play when the opportunity came. One of the standout moments of the day was when he brought up his fifty with a straight drive down the ground — a shot that underlined his control and elegance.

Stuart Broad, speaking on Sky Sports, commended both Gill’s temperament and his leadership qualities. “It’s been very patient from Shubman Gill so far, and he’s got the look about him that he is here for the day. A very calm nature, he looks like the sort of captain you’d like to play for. Doesn’t get too ruffled,” Broad observed.

He went on to praise the 25-year-old for his discipline and dedication during the knock, calling it a proper Test match innings.

“Wonderful. Test match innings. Patient Test match innings from Shubman Gill. He’s worked extremely hard for his second century as captain in his second successive Test. He’s remained extremely calm throughout, and his team appreciate every single run he’s carved out so far.”

Gill remained unbeaten on 114 at stumps, guiding India to 310 for 5 alongside Ravindra Jadeja (41*).
