British No.1 and world No.40 Emma Raducanu looks to be back in top form at Wimbledon 2025. On Wednesday, she produced a stunning performance to defeat 2023 champion Marketa Vondrousova 6-3, 6-3, claiming her second win of the tournament. With this victory, Raducanu has now reached the last 32 for the third time in four Wimbledon appearances.
Coming into the match with modest expectations, Raducanu admitted the win was unexpected — but a major confidence booster.
“I think that was one of the best matches I’ve played in a long time, which I’m very proud of,” said the 22-year-old. “At the same time, I didn’t feel like I was doing anything outrageous, which gives me a lot of confidence,” she added.
Raducanu, the 2021 US Open champion, has now won nine of her 12 career matches at Wimbledon and has twice reached the fourth round. She started her 2025 campaign with a commanding win over fellow Briton Mimi Xu on Monday.
Now with two back-to-back wins under her belt, Raducanu is ready to up the intensity in the next rounds.
“I think what’s going to be the real difference for me to get up to the top is going to be the aggressive side. I think taking calculated risks more and taking my shots on, and starting the point as well. Against the top girls, you really need to have a weapon on serve and also from the back,” she explained.
Annabel Croft: “Emma is at her best”
Following Raducanu’s convincing win over Vondrousova, former British No.1 Annabel Croft praised her performance on BBC Radio 5 Live and said the 22-year-old is playing at her best level.
“I don’t think she could be hitting the ball any better, I really don’t. She was absolutely middling it. I would think that would be quite worrying for Sabalenka actually because she’ll be facing Raducanu at her best,” Croft remarked.
Croft, however, also acknowledged the challenge Raducanu will face next, as she prepares to take on world No.1 Aryna Sabalenka on Friday.
“If Raducanu can play anything close to that level again, although she may not be allowed to because Sabalenka will bring a lot of power, she will give the world number one a run for her money,” she concluded.
