England Women’s skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt has been ruled out of the third T20I against India Women due to a left groin injury. The series deciding match is set to be played at The Oval in London.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed the news via an official media statement, clarifying that Sciver-Brunt is currently only ruled out of the third fixture. Her participation in the remainder of the series will be determined following scan results assessing the severity of the injury.
“The scan outcome will help decide whether Sciver-Brunt needs to miss additional matches, with the fourth Vitality T20I scheduled for Wednesday, 9 July at Emirates Old Trafford,” the ECB added.
Bouchier added to the T20I squad as batting cover
In Sciver-Brunt’s absence, experienced batter Tammy Beaumont will take over the captaincy. Additionally, Hampshire’s Maia Bouchier has been drafted into the squad as cover. Bouchier, a top-order batter, brings solid experience with 44 T20I appearances and 722 runs to her name, including a personal best of 91.
England are already missing Heather Knight, who is sidelined with a hamstring injury. The absence of two senior players, including Sciver-Brunt, presents a significant challenge for the hosts, especially as they trail 0-2 in the five-match series.
A loss at The Oval would confirm India’s first-ever T20I series win on English soil. After the third T20I, the series continues with the fourth match in Manchester on July 9 and concludes in Birmingham on July 12.
