Promising West Indies pacer Anderson Phillip claimed the wicket of Sam Konstas in the second Test between Australia and the West Indies, currently being played at the National Cricket Stadium, St George’s, Grenada.
After missing out on the first Test, Phillip was given his opportunity in place of Jomel Warrican. Roston Chase brought him on as the second-change bowler, and he made an immediate impact by dismissing Konstas, who looked in good touch on 25.
Hailing from Trinidad, Phillip made his ODI debut for the West Indies on 14 March 2021 against Sri Lanka. He made his first-class debut in 2017 for Trinidad and Tobago, while his List A debut came on 7 November 2019 in the 2019–20 Regional Super50 tournament.
For the Test series against England in June 2020, Phillip was named as one of the reserve players. The Trinidadian also featured for the Trinbago Knight Riders in the 2020 Caribbean Premier League. He was later included in the West Indies Test squad for the England series and made his Test debut against Bangladesh in 2022.
In September 2024, Phillip joined Lancashire County Cricket Club for the County Championship. He also played for Lancashire in the T20 Blast. Due to his county contract, he was unavailable for the final matches of the West Indies Championship with the Trinidad and Tobago Red Force in April.
Prior to this match, Phillip had played two Tests for the West Indies, scoring 53 runs at an average of 26.50, with a top score of 43. He had also taken three wickets. In ODIs, he has played five matches, scoring 22 runs at an average of 22, with a highest score of an unbeaten 21, and has claimed four wickets.
Phillip will be eager to add to his wicket tally in the ongoing Test against Australia in Grenada.
