Afghanistan’s star spinner Rashid Khan has expressed his heartfelt desire to play an international match in front of his home crowd. Despite Afghanistan’s impressive performances in recent years, political instability and inadequate infrastructure have prevented the country from hosting international fixtures.

Speaking at a recent event in Dubai, the leg-spinner shared that it would mean a great deal to represent his nation on home soil — a dream that remains unfulfilled even after Afghanistan attained full ICC membership in 2017.

Since achieving Test status, Afghanistan have hosted their ‘home’ matches in countries like India, the UAE, and Sri Lanka. Rashid revealed that while numerous games were scheduled to be held in Afghanistan, they never materialised. Nonetheless, he remains hopeful that international matches will be played there someday — ideally before he retires — as it remains his dream to perform in front of his home supporters.

“That’s in the FTP for now, but when the time comes, only then will we know whether it’s happening. So many games have been scheduled in Afghanistan, but they’ve never taken place. Hopefully, it happens — it’s good for cricket and good for Afghanistan,” Rashid said during the event.

“Well, if it eventually happens, it will be a dream come true to play international cricket in Afghanistan. I hope it happens before I retire. That’s something I’ve always dreamed of — playing in front of my home crowd.”

Rashid was last seen in action during IPL 2025, representing Gujarat Titans in what turned out to be a disappointing season for him. He was also set to feature for MI New York in the ongoing Major League Cricket (MLC 2025), but withdrew to take a break from the game.
