Boria Majumdar in London
There are moments that kind of make you feel that all this hard work is worth it. We generally do our post-day live shows from the park opposite the Danubius hotel. The Internet reception is really nice there. Yesterday also, the routine was the same.
I had reached early while Gargi joined me a couple of minutes later. In that little time, a young man walked up to me and called out my name. He looked familiar, but I couldn’t really place him. That’s when he said, “Boria sir, recognise me? Met you at the MCG outside Gate 3 during the Boxing Day Test. My name is Jaynil”.
And it all came back to me. He is one of our avid viewers and someone who asks intelligent questions and engages in healthy debate. It was nice of him to walk up to me and I asked him if he had come to watch the game. “I work here,” he said and went on to add, “Had travelled to Melbourne in December and taken the opportunity to watch the Boxing Day Test.”
Thereafter, what happened was unexpected. He opened his bag and got out a thank you card and a box of chocolates. “Wanted to thank you for the superb coverage. This is just a token for you and the RevSportz team. Please share with them and wish you all the very best,” he said.
I was overwhelmed. For someone to take time off work and come and meet us at the spot where we would be doing our live, and to get the card and chocolates was deeply impacting.
This is why you work. To engage and connect with like-minded people and leave a legacy. It is not about money or anything else. It is about satisfaction and feeling good about work. Thanks Jaynil and to the many, many people who have walked up to us here and thanked us for the coverage. That’s what RevSportz is for and will be.
