Australia pacer Mitchell Starc marked his 100th Test in unforgettable fashion, delivering a fiery spell of fast bowling that shattered multiple records in the day-night Test against the West Indies at Sabina Park, Jamaica.
The standout achievement in Starc’s milestone match was claiming the fastest five-wicket haul in Test history, needing just 15 deliveries to reach the mark. The previous record was held by fellow Australian Ernie Toshack, who took five wickets in 19 balls against India in 1947.
Chasing 204 runs to win, the West Indies were rocked early by Starc’s unrelenting pace. He set the tone immediately, removing John Campbell with a peach of a delivery off the very first ball. In the same over, he struck twice more—dismissing Kevlon Anderson and Brandon King off successive deliveries to leave the hosts reeling.
Starc continued to torment the West Indies with a deadly combination of pace and swing, removing Mikyle Louis and Shai Hope in quick succession. The dismissal of Louis brought up Starc’s 400th Test wicket, a fitting milestone in his 100th appearance. Josh Hazlewood then added to the chaos by removing Roston Chase, leaving the West Indies tottering at 11 for 6.
While Starc narrowly missed out on a hat-trick, his teammate Scott Boland ensured Australia still had something extra to celebrate, becoming the 10th Australian to claim a Test hat-trick.
With Starc in full rhythm, captain Pat Cummins wisely chose not to interrupt his momentum, letting him bowl uninterrupted from one end. And it was only fitting that Starc delivered the final blow, dismissing Jayden Seales to complete the rout.
The left-armer finished with jaw-dropping figures of 6 for 9 in 7.3 overs, which helped his team win the game by 176 runs.
