In a big move, wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma has parted ways with Vidarbha after more than a decade, moving to Baroda ahead of the 2025–26 domestic season. The 31-year-old had been part of the Vidarbha setup since 2013, marking the end of an 11-year association with the reigning Ranji Trophy champions.

Jitesh made his first-class debut in the 2015–16 season but has featured in only 18 red-ball matches since, scoring 733 runs at an average of 24.48, including four half-centuries. His most recent appearance came in January 2024, nearly 18 months ago.

The transfer reportedly stems from limited opportunities in the longer format at Vidarbha. With Akshay Wadkar leading the side and occupying the wicketkeeping role, Jitesh found himself on the fringes in first-class cricket.

The move to Baroda could offer him a much-needed opportunity to revitalise his red-ball career and cement a regular spot in the playing XI.

Catalyst Krunal is behind Jitesh’s transfer

According to ESPNcricinfo, whispers of Jitesh’s transfer had been circulating for some time. His close association with Baroda captain and RCB teammate Krunal Pandya is understood to have influenced the decision.

On the international front, Jitesh has played nine T20Is for India, scoring 100 runs at an average of 14.28 with an impressive strike rate of 147.05. His best knock—35 against Australia—came in Raipur in December 2023. He last turned out for India in the home series against Afghanistan.

After a strong IPL campaign with Royal Challengers Bengaluru, where he delivered impactful performances with the bat, Jitesh is once again in the reckoning for a T20I recall.

Meanwhile, fellow RCB squad member Swapnil Singh is set to switch to Tripura. Swapnil, who did not play a single match for RCB, last represented Uttarakhand in the 2024–25 Ranji Trophy, claiming 18 wickets in five games.
