On the final day of the Lord’s Test, Ravindra Jadeja stood tall for India when the rest of the batting line-up crumbled under pressure. Jadeja remained unbeaten on 61 off 181 balls, showing immense patience and grit. As wickets kept falling around him, he stood firm, becoming India’s only ray of hope in a tense chase.
Jadeja batted for nearly three hours, holding the innings together with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. However, despite his valiant effort, India were bowled out for 170, falling just 22 runs short of the 193-run target set by England.
One of the most emotional moments came when Siraj was dismissed, ending India’s fight. England’s Joe Root and Zak Crawley were seen consoling Siraj, adding a poignant touch to a hard-fought match.
While some felt Jadeja could have gone for more big shots after Bumrah’s dismissal, his calm approach in a high-pressure situation reflected his growing maturity and understanding of the game.
In a BCCI video titled “The MVP ft. Ravindra Jadeja,” head coach Gautam Gambhir lauded Jadeja’s heroic innings in the dressing room speech.
“That was an incredible fight. The fight from Jaddu was absolutely brilliant,” said Gambhir.
Batting coach Sitanshu Kotak also praised Jadeja’s mental toughness: “I always felt he has the ability to take pressure… Really, really valuable to the team.”
India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate added: “His batting has reached another level… looks like a proper batter.”
Mohammed Siraj called Jadeja a rare gem: “We are lucky to have such a player in our team.”
Shubman Gill summed it up best: “The way Jaddu bhai batted was a proud effort.”
With the defeat, India now trail 1-2 in the five-match Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series. The fourth Test is set to begin at Old Trafford, Manchester, on July 23.
