India Women began the ongoing three-match ODI series in England with an impressive win in the series opener. Now, on 19 July, they are set to take the field at the iconic Lord’s for the second game, aiming to seal the series with another victory. However, weather conditions might hamper the much-anticipated clash.

According to AccuWeather, the entire day is expected to be mostly cloudy, with thunderstorms also predicted. An Amber warning for thunderstorms has been issued from 4 AM to 11 AM local time, followed by a Yellow warning from 12 PM to 9 PM local time.

The match is scheduled to begin at 11 AM local time (3:30 PM IST). The temperature is expected to hover around 23°C, with an 88% chance of precipitation. The probability of thunderstorms stands at 53%, with 93% cloud cover, raising serious concerns over the possibility of a full game.

If the match gets abandoned due to rain, both teams will move on to the third and final ODI on 22 July at Chester-le-Street with the series still alive. In that case, India must avoid defeat in the last game, as a win for England would level the series 1-1.

The bigger concern for India, however, is the lost opportunity for preparation ahead of the upcoming Women’s Cricket World Cup. After this match, India will only have four more ODIs left to fine-tune their squad — one in England and three at home against Australia.

An abandoned match today would mean one less chance for the Women in Blue to test combinations and gain momentum before the mega event.
