The World Championship of Legends 2025 (WCL 2025) kicked off on 18 July at Edgbaston, England, with Pakistan Champions clinching a thrilling five-run win over England Champions. Skipper Mohammad Hafeez was named Player of the Match for his crucial 54-run knock off 34 balls.
After losing the toss, Pakistan Champions were sent in to bat first. They got off to a shaky start, slipping to 44/3 with early dismissals of Kamran Akmal (8 off 12), Sharjeel Khan (12 off 15), and Umar Amin (6 off 9). However, Hafeez anchored the innings with a fluent 54 off 34 balls at a strike rate of 158.82.
His innings was well-supported by cameos from Asif Ali (15 off 13), Tanvir Khan (17 off 11), and an unbeaten 27 off 13 from Aamer Yamin, helping Pakistan post a competitive 160/9 in 20 overs. For England, Chris Tremlett and Liam Plunkett picked up two wickets each, while James Vince, Dimitri Mascarenhas, Stuart Meaker, and Ryan Sidebottom claimed one apiece.
In response, England Champions made a decent start and were 52/2 in 8.1 overs. The chase was led by Phil Mustard, who scored a steady 58 off 51 balls, and Ian Bell, who remained unbeaten on 51 off 35. The duo stitched a 55-run partnership for the third wicket, but despite Eoin Morgan’s unbeaten 16-run cameo, England fell short of the target, finishing at 155/3.
For Pakistan, Aamer Yamin, Sohail Tanvir, and Rumman Raees each took one wicket to keep the pressure on in the second innings.
With this win, Pakistan Champions top the standings with two points and a net run rate of +0.250, while England Champions sit at the bottom with no points and a net run rate of -0.250.
