After missing out on selection for the England Test series, veteran pacer Mohammed Shami has been included in Bengal’s 50-member list of probables for the upcoming 2025–26 domestic cricket season.
The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) released the list on July 18, with Shami named at the top, alongside key players like Akash Deep, Mukesh Kumar, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Abishek Porel, Shahbaz Ahmed, and Ishan Porel.
After being on the sidelines due to ankle and knee injury for a year, Shami returned to Bengal’s domestic setup last season to prove his fitness. In his comeback match against Madhya Pradesh, he delivered a match-winning all-round performance, bagging seven wickets and contributing vital runs with the bat to help Bengal clinch their first win of the season.
Once he proved his fitness, Shami earned a recall to the T20I squad for the England series earlier this year. With Jasprit Bumrah unavailable, Shami led the pace attack and picked up nine wickets in five matches, including a five-wicket haul against Bangladesh
However, his IPL 2025 campaign with Sunrisers Hyderabad was disappointing. The right-arm pacer managed just six wickets in nine matches at an economy rate of 11.23 before being dropped. During the tournament, the BCCI medical team assessed him and later ruled him unfit for the England Tests, as confirmed by chief selector Ajit Agarkar.
Shami is now expected to be available for the upcoming Duleep Trophy, which returns to its traditional inter-zonal format this season and begins on August 28.
