England legend James Anderson feels honoured to have his name on the England vs India Test series trophy and describes Sachin Tendulkar as one of the greatest cricketers in the world.

In an interview with Sky Sports, Anderson said he felt out of place seeing his name alongside Sachin’s and was thrilled to share the stage with his icon.

Ahead of the series, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) renamed the Pataudi Trophy as the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, in honour of the two legends of their respective teams.

“It’s not necessarily just how huge it is to have a trophy named after you, but to have it alongside Sachin Tendulkar — who, for me, is one of the greatest ever cricketers to have lived,” Anderson told Sky Sports. “I feel completely out of place when I see myself alongside him on the trophy. I hold him in such high regard.”

Anderson, who retired last year with a record 704 Test wickets, revealed that he often feels disconnected from the legacy he has created and finds it surreal when his name is mentioned in discussions about cricketing greatness.

“It’s strange — when people talk about what I’ve achieved in cricket, it almost feels like they’re talking about someone else. It doesn’t feel real to me, as if I’m detached from it,” he added.

England currently lead the five-match Test series 2–1. The fourth Test is a must-win for India to level the series, while England will be aiming to seal the series and retain the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
