Hard-hitting all-rounder Mitch Owen is set to make his T20I debut for Australia against the West Indies in Jamaica on 21 July, as Australia announced their playing XI for the series opener.

Owen is expected to bat in the middle order, with skipper Mitchell Marsh and Jake Fraser-McGurk taking up the opening positions.

The Tasmanian all-rounder impressed last summer in Big Bash League 14, scoring two centuries. He continued his fine form in Major League Cricket (MLC) 2025 with Washington Freedom, where he was named Player of the Tournament for scoring 313 runs and taking 14 wickets.

In an interview with Cricket.com.au, Owen spoke about sticking to his usual game plans after receiving this opportunity and expressed contentment with any batting position he’s given.

“A lot of my (method) is just trying to hit the ball nice and clean. All that experience (playing around the world this year) has made me quite clear on my game plan, so I guess that breeds a bit of confidence. I’m just happy to be getting the game — I don’t really mind where it is, and if it’s down the order, I’m looking forward to that opportunity,” Owen told Cricket.com.au.

Wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis will bat at number three. Owen will join Cameron Green, Glenn Maxwell, and Cooper Connolly in the middle order. Ben Dwarshuis, Sean Abbott, and Nathan Ellis make up the pace attack, while Adam Zampa will serve as the sole spinner.
