Team India have been hit by two injury setbacks ahead of the fourth Test against England at Old Trafford, with Nitish Kumar Reddy ruled out for the remainder of the series and Arshdeep Singh sidelined for the Manchester Test.

Reddy sustained an injury to his left knee during a gym session in Manchester, while Arshdeep injured his bowling hand during a training session in Beckenham prior to the team’s departure. Both setbacks were first reported by RevSportz and later confirmed in an official statement by the BCCI on Monday morning.

The board announced that Reddy would return home, ruling him out of the final two Tests. Meanwhile, Arshdeep has been ruled out of the fourth Test due to a left thumb injury and is currently under the supervision of the BCCI medical team.

Kamboj added to the squad

To address the depleted pace options, the selectors have named uncapped fast bowler Anshul Kamboj as a bowling cover. He has already linked up with the squad.

This development further complicates matters for Team India, who currently trail 2-1 in the five-match series.

After missing the opening Test in Headingley, Reddy featured in the second and third matches, replacing Shardul Thakur. While his performance in Birmingham was modest, he made notable contributions at Lord’s, claiming key wickets including Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley, and adding useful runs (30 and 13) in both innings.

With Reddy sidelined, Shardul Thakur now appears to be the only like-for-like replacement available for the crucial fourth Test in Manchester.

India’s pace bowling options have been hit hard, with Arshdeep ruled out and Akash Deep reportedly nursing a groin injury. Jasprit Bumrah, who was earlier a doubtful starter, is now expected to play at Manchester alongside Mohammed Siraj. However, the team will have to make a decision on the third seamer’s spot should Akash Deep fail to prove his fitness.

India’s updated squad for fourth Test: Shubman Gill (c), Rishabh Pant (vc) (wk), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel (WK), Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd. Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Kuldeep Yadav, Anshul Kamboj.
