India’s Under-19 captain Ayush Mhatre played a brilliant knock under pressure in the second Youth Test against England at Chelmsford. Chasing 355 runs for victory, Mhatre delivered a fearless innings of 126 runs off just 80 balls. His knock was filled with both power and class, featuring 13 boundaries and 6 sixes at a stunning strike rate of 157.50.

After the early dismissal of Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the skipper wasted no time settling in. He took charge immediately, attacking the bowlers and changing the pace of the game from the start. Every loose delivery was punished, and his aggressive approach helped him break the record for most sixes in Youth Tests for India U19, with 9 sixes across two matches—surpassing Saurabh Tiwary’s previous record of 8 in four matches.

His counter-attacking innings took India to a strong position at 217 before he was dismissed. Ayush was caught by Ben Mayes off the bowling of Ralphie Albert.

This stunning second-innings effort came on the back of another impressive performance in the first innings, where he scored 80 runs off 90 balls. That knock included 14 boundaries and one six, at a strike rate of 88.88.

Mhatre has been in sublime form throughout the England series. In the first Youth Test at Beckenham, he scored a magnificent 102 in the first innings and followed it up with 32 in the second.

Unfortunately, much like the first Test, the second Youth Test also ended in a draw. Rain interrupted play at the end of the 43rd over with India at 290 for 6, denying them a shot at victory. As a result, the series ended 0-0, marking the conclusion of India U19’s tour of England.
