AB de Villiers turned back the clock with a sensational performance as South Africa Champions crushed England Champions by 10 wickets in Leicester on Wednesday, 24 July, in the ongoing World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025. Chasing a target of 153, de Villiers made the chase look effortless, smashing an unbeaten 116 off just 51 balls, bringing up his century in just 41 deliveries.

It was classic ABD — elegant, powerful, and relentless. His innings featured 15 boundaries and 7 sixes, finishing with a breathtaking strike rate of 227.45. England’s bowlers had no answers to his range of strokes and timing. For this incredible knock, de Villiers was deservedly named Player of the Match, delivering one of the most entertaining innings of the tournament so far.

At the other end, Hashim Amla played the perfect supporting role, finishing unbeaten on 29 off 25 balls. Together, the duo chased down the target in just 12.2 overs, with a whopping 46 balls to spare.

Earlier in the day, South Africa won the toss and elected to bowl first. England Champions posted a modest 152/6 in their 20 overs. Phil Mustard provided a brisk start with 39, while Samit Patel (24) and Eoin Morgan (20) added some runs.

However, South Africa’s bowling unit kept things tight. Imran Tahir and Wayne Parnell took two wickets each, while Duanne Olivier and Chris Morris picked up one apiece, restricting England to a below-par total.

This commanding win takes South Africa Champions to the top of the WCL 2025 points table with six points from three matches. They remain unbeaten in the tournament and boast an impressive net run rate of 3.415.

On the other hand, England Champions suffered their third loss in four games and now sit at fifth place in the standings, with qualification chances slipping further.
