In a high-scoring contest at the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025, Pakistan Champions handed South Africa Champions their first defeat of the tournament with a 31-run victory in Leicester on July 25.
Batting first, Pakistan posted a strong total of 198/5 in 20 overs. Umar Amin, who was also named Player of the Match, anchored the innings with a composed 58 off 42 balls, while Shoaib Malik remained unbeaten on 46. Asif Ali added a quickfire 23 off 11 balls, and a late cameo by Aamer Yamin (11* off 5) helped Pakistan close in on the 200-run mark.
In reply, South Africa struggled to gain momentum throughout the chase, especially in the absence of AB de Villiers, who missed the game. Their top order failed to make a significant impact, and despite a late surge from Morne van Wyk, who scored a fighting 44 off 20 balls*, the side fell short and finished at 167/9.
Pakistan’s bowlers maintained tight control, with Mohammad Hafeez, Imad Wasim, and Shoaib Malik bowling economical spells. Sohail Tanvir and Hafeez claimed two wickets each, contributing to South Africa’s downfall.
The defeat snapped South Africa’s winning streak and kept them on 6 points from 4 matches with a net run rate of +1.812, while Pakistan jumped to second place on the points table with 5 points from 4 games with a net run rate of +0.900. South Africa Champions will now take on Australia Champions on 27 July while Pakistan Champions will now face West Indies Champions on 26 July, later today.
