India’s ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah’s form in the ongoing fourth Test against England in Manchester has raised concerns, as noted by former England cricketer Michael Vaughan. Bumrah has bowled 28 overs in the match so far, managing to secure just one wicket — that of Jamie Smith — while conceding 95 runs.
Vaughan believes Bumrah lacked his usual pace in Manchester, especially when compared to his fiery spell at Lord’s and in contrast to England bowlers like Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes.
“I have to say Jasprit Bumrah has looked okay and playable today. He hasn’t got that oomph that he got out of the surface at Lord’s when he bowled that incredible spell and it’s the pace that Bumrah is not able to generate, unlike Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer,” Vaughan told the BBC.
Bumrah is third highest wicket-taker of this series so far
Despite a disappointing show on Day 3 with figures of 1/95, Bumrah reached a major milestone in his bowling career — completing 50 wickets in Test matches in England. He became only the third Asian bowler to achieve this feat after Pakistan’s Wasim Akram (53) and India’s Ishant Sharma (51).
Bumrah has now taken 50 wickets in just 12 Test matches in England, with an average of 26.38 and an economy rate of 2.79. He is also currently India’s second leading wicket-taker in the ongoing series, with 13 wickets at an average of 26.69, including two five-wicket hauls.
