England legend Stuart Broad offered his insights into the dismissals of Yashasvi Jaiswal and No. 3 Sai Sudharsan in the first over of India’s second innings on Day 4 of the fourth Test in Manchester.
After spending two days in the field, India got off to the worst possible start, losing both Jaiswal and Sudharsan on consecutive deliveries, leaving them reeling at 0 for 2.
Speaking on JioCinema during the lunch break on Day 4 of the Manchester Test, Broad said that the lengthy fielding effort had taken a toll on their physical condition, contributing to their early dismissals.
“Fresh legs, fresh bowlers. If you give your bowlers two nights’ sleep in a Test match, they’ll come out and make the ball talk. It’s an interesting one — Jaiswal, second ball, tried to cut one and missed, and he immediately shook his legs. You know when you’ve got lactic acid in your legs, you’ve got to shake them out and try to get some feeling back. That, to me, showed he was both mentally and physically tired, and he was trying to switch himself on,” Broad observed.
“Sudharsan… it was complete mental and physical tiredness — which, in your second Test match, after fielding for over 160 overs, is completely understandable.”
Despite the early setbacks, India ended Day 4 on a high, with opener KL Rahul and skipper Shubman Gill remaining unbeaten at stumps. Rahul is on 87, while Gill is batting on 78. Their partnership has propelled India to 174 for 2.
Heading into the final day, India trail by 137 runs.
