Glenn Maxwell played an absolute blinder to take Australia to their fourth consecutive win against West Indies in the ongoing five-match T20I series, as they registered a three-wicket victory in St Kitts.
Chasing a target of 206, Australia lost their first wicket on the second ball of the innings. Maxwell then built two partnerships that laid the foundation for Australia to win the match. With Josh Inglis, he stitched a partnership of 66 off just 35 balls for the second wicket, followed by a partnership of 63 off just 24 balls with Cameron Green.
Maxwell made 47 off just 18 balls at a blistering strike rate of 261.11, including one four and six sixes. Inglis scored 51 runs off 30 balls with 10 fours and one six at a strike rate of 170.00, and Green also played an unbeaten knock of 55 off 35 balls that included three fours and three sixes at a strike rate of 157.14. For West Indies, Jediah Blades took three wickets, but Australia won the match with four balls left and now lead the series 4-0 with one more match to go on 29 July in St Kitts.
Earlier, Australia won the toss and put West Indies in to bat. None of the West Indies batters made a big score, but several players chipped in with small contributions to take them to a total of 205/9 in their 20 overs. Sherfane Rutherford scored 31 runs off 15 balls with four fours and two sixes. For Australia, Adam Zampa picked up three wickets but proved to be very expensive, conceding 54 runs. Maxwell was named Player of the Match.
