KL Rahul has etched his name in the history of Indian cricket by joining an elite list. With over 500 runs in the ongoing Test series against England, Rahul has become only the second Indian opener—after the legendary Sunil Gavaskar—to score 500 or more Test runs in an away series.

Gavaskar achieved this milestone twice: first against the West Indies in 1971 and then during India’s tour of England in 1979. Now, 46 years later, Rahul has matched that rare feat with his consistent and composed performances throughout the 2025 Anderson Tendulkar Trophy.

In the fourth Test at Manchester, Rahul once again showcased his grit and temperament. He scored a steady 46 off 98 balls in the first innings. But the real highlight came in the second innings, when India was under immense pressure, trailing by 311 runs. After losing Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan for ducks in the very first over, Rahul stepped up when it mattered most. He built a crucial 188-run partnership with captain Shubman Gill and played a brilliant knock of 90 from 230 balls.

Rahul has been in sublime form throughout the series. In the first Test, he scored 42 in the first innings and followed it up with a magnificent 137 in the second. In the second Test at Birmingham, he contributed scores of 2 and 55. At Lord’s in the third Test, he engraved his name once again on the iconic Honours Board with a stunning century in the first innings, followed by a 29 in the second.

After four Tests, Rahul has amassed 511 runs in eight innings at an impressive average of 63.87. He is currently the second-highest run-scorer of the series.
